I visited Bhutan in 2013 and saw His Majesty in Thimpu. He is called the "People's King" as he has traveled throughout the country, usually by foot as there are no roads to the tiny villages. After an earthquake destroyed much of eastern Bhutan, the King drove then walked for many days to comfort the people. In one village, the residents were so afraid of returning to their homes, he reassured them by sleeping in one of their homes. There was no running water, nor electricity and he lived as they did. I was so enchanted by this country and the people that I returned in 2014, visiting new sections and repeating some areas. I saw this wonderful book in a hotel and bought it when I returned home. Most of the photos were taken by His Majesty; he is a talented photographer as well as an artist, gardener and a good basketball player! If you can't get to Bhutan, this is a wonderful way to enjoy this spectacular country. It will entice you to visit.
some great and not so great photography but a good Bhutan book overall; the interest piece being the author and amateur photographer, his majesty the King of Bhutan. For artistic photography, I'd recommend the "Buddhist Himalayas" book by Olivier Follmi
