My hubby and I are new to Mah Jongg and have been watching YouTube videos to learn the basics. Sometimes, the videos go way to fast for us to follow or see the examples of tiles long enough. Videos are great but there's nothing like sitting down with a drink of your choice and a print book to read and re-read info at your own learning pace. That's where this excellent book comes in.Everything from the most basic of basics to strategy tips (we haven't gotten that far yet), is clearly explained in down to earth terms that are geared to the newest player.We found the section on deciding what category to play the most helpful so far. This is the most complicated part for us, and even though we watched many videos on this subject, nothing compared to the explanations given in this book. We read this chapter at least 3 times and will probably refer to it again. The exercises that follow the explanations are a wonderful way to practice the lesson, and by doing the ones on choosing the right category, we are starting to make some sense on how to make this important decision.We heartily recommend this book for brand new beginnners, and if you haven't played for a while, this would be a great refresher course.

If you're intent on learning how to play Mah Jongg, this book is a great help. Yes, you can learn from other players, but if you still need remedial help (I did!), get this book. Author Elaine Sandberg writes plainly, in uncomplicated sentences. She has organized the chapters in the best possible way for learning. Each chapter has a summary and then a small quiz at the end. You need to do them, as they recap what you've learned and you can determine where you need to go back and re-read.Take her advice and set-up the hands. It will familiarize you with the various possibilities. I took it a step further. I set-up hands using this year's card (not the dated one she supplies at the back of her book). Then using the method she recommends (position tiles on rack by suits and numbers first, in ascending order; then look at the card, finding which section is the most opportune one with which to play your hand), choose the hand you want to play. I did this, but with a variation. I asked a knowledgeable Mah Jongg friend to come over and look at the four racks I'd set-up. I then explained to her why I chose to play the hands I'd selected. She listened, and then either agreed, or pointed out different ways to look at the tiles and play a different hand. Sometimes, it was within the same section, sometimes not. Using the book and a friend's help makes the lessons even more meaningful.The most important lessons I gleaned are: how to set-up the rack (to better select the hands); familiarize yourself with the 50 different possible hands; and (for a beginner) do not change hands mid-game. Allowing yourself to lose only strengthens your play, by seeing a hand through to its end. After you have gained confidence, try to switch hands if your original choice isn't working for you.Aside from Ms. Sandberg's book, the next best advice I can give you for learning is to play with kind, non-threatening players. Seasoned, no-nonsense, cutthroat players will not be patient and you will quickly become a Mah Jongg drop-out. My group is patient, willing to teach, and helps me to re-hash each hand I play at the end of every game. They are encouraging, supportive, and kind. Without them--and the book, I would have given up months ago. Really. So, get A Beginner's Guide to American Mah Jongg.

My neighbor and I decided to take a beginners' class in mah jongg offered to "seniors" at our suburban community center. Five other women had the same idea. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that the instructor lined up to teach the class was a no-show. But that didn't stop us. We bought seven books, ordered seven cards that display the 2012 hands published by the National Mah Jongg League and we have taught ourselves the game! This book was perfect because it's written in a clear, concise manner, illustrated with many explanatory diagrams and generously laced with humor, which a beginning player needs to lighten the way to learning this challenging game. All of my new "mah jongg friends" took the "class" for the same reason as I did: to spend some fun time playing a game that would stimulate the brain. Without both instructor and book, this class would never have met a second time. Now we're into our third month and, in addition to the regular class time, we're frequently playing twice a week. And we've found an eighth player who will join us as soon as she finishes reading the book. "A Beginner's Guide to American Mah Jongg" gets a five-star rating from all in our group, who read it easily in one evening, applied its rules and strategy and are now having a great time stretching our minds as we play the American version of this ancient Chinese game.

I understand the concepts and how to build hands for the game. Before this book I was lost.The one drawback is that the book follows the National Mahjongg League 2004 Card. The current card is 2018. But the principals of how to play are the same so it is fine.This book is a must have for anyone who wants to learn how to play as well as for those who have been playing for sonetime. It contains rules, definitions and strategy.I am so glad i purchased this book

The most useful information was on how to perform the Charleston. Also, very good on how to decide between two possible hands while the game is in play. I already knew how to play when I read this book, however, I still learned a thing or two.The book explains the game step by step. It would be best to observe a game before reading the book because sometimes simple things in the game require lots of explanation in the book. Therefore, it's easier to understand the text, if you've already seen the game in action.

Although this book was informative, Washington used elevated language appropriate for her peers, not the audience who needs to hear about it. The book felt drawn out and repetitive after a while.

Great book!

Really good very informative

I highly recommend this book be read by all functionally literate humans. I underlined and made so many notes in my copy of the book, it could not possibly be re-sold to anyone.A lot of what I read was "you don't say." However, when I read about presumed consent and how in most states it is legal to harvest your body and or organs without consent, had steam coming from my ears(figuratively, of course). I want choke a doctor and his/her co-conspirators.

Clearly the book has a lot of work and effort behind it. I am only 1/2 way through, but feel some of the points mentioned are feeling rather than fact based information. However the main points are well documented and no doubt should be of concern to us all, particularly in light of our US cost of healthcare, almost double per capita all other western industrialized countries. Knowing also that Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security are the largest part of our present and future fiscal mismanagement problems also highlights the authors many good points. It's a bit tough to slog through, but worth reading.

DEADLY MONOPOLIES will change your life! Once you begin reading this book, your approach to your health will be transformed. If I had known years ago what I now know, so many things would be different. Save your loved ones by reading this book, and save yourself by asking the questions that will get you the answers you need. I know I also have to address my physical fitness and my stress management in order to stay mentally fit and I will try to embrace Dr. Masley's suggestions.Overall, I can only recommend buying The Better Brain Solution because it is so comprehensive. The only thing I disagree about is that Dr. Masley suggests unfermented soy products like Edamame as part of a healthy diet, as the majority has been genetically modified and unfermented soy products might elevate the risk for breast cancer. But soy products aside, I would wholeheartedly put my trust into Dr. Masley and get a personal health evaluation in his medical office if I had the financial means to do so.

First this book does have good points about it. It is a good look at the James Bond phenomenon, but it only goes up to the early 80's. It was very detailed in the approach to James Bond, but it also was a biography of Ian Fleming, which is ok except that it takes up about a third of the total book. Now I was interested in this bio, but I was really wanting to read more on the character, James Bond. It is a fairly good reference book that could have been better. I felt that the way to tell about the books and films would be to do the book then the movie pointing out the differences between the two. Also very little was done with the characters as to who played who yes there were the major characters you are told about, but some of the others are just characters without faces. This review is probably a little disjointed, but so was this book. A final couple of thought on this book: one, none of the Bond movies after Timothy Dalton are mentioned in the book so it is not a complete book on Bond. Two the books that were written by John Gardner is an incomplete list it have been nice that a revised version would have covered all movies and books. As I said it is a nice reference book just don't expect to read it in one sitting.

A reissue of the Eighties know-all book about everything Bond. While it thoroughly covers all the Bond films through the Dalton era, the book's main appeal for me was it's coverage of the original stories and novels, as well as detailed material on Fleming and his creation. It reminded me once more of how good a writer Fleming was and how unique his creation. One unexpected outcome of this book was to motivate me to once again 're-read all the books in order, something I have not done since the late Sixties. A delightful book and well worth the time of any Fleming and 007 fan.

It's unfortunate that no one has undertaken a similar look at the Bond phenomenon since Benson's seminal work here. Though the book hasn't been updated since the '80s, The James Bond Bedside Companion includes more than just capsule reviews of the 007 films and novels by Fleming, Amis, and Gardner, but instead digs deep into Bond history and contains many never, or at least rarely, seen commentary from Fleming's contemporaries and friends regarding the creation and development of the character, goes into a fair amount of detail regarding the relationship between the books and the films, and gives the reader something more than just a bird's eye view of everyone's favorite British agent.Mr. Benson's love of the character comes through each page of the book, and provides a wealth of information to longstanding fans of 007 and those new to James Bond. This book could inspire someone only familiar with the Bond movies to explore the literary character in greater depth, generating a new appreciation for the source material and also providing fans with something rewarding to occupy themselves between films.

This book is excellent for filling in the gaps of your knowledge of James Bond and Ian Fleming.It begins with a background of Ian Fleming and how he created the idea for James Bond. Mr. Benson then moves to his family life and where he wrote many of the novels in his Shangri-La.This book is complete and accurate (as of the publishing date).

I read Raymond Benson's James Bond Bedside Companion as a teenager and have been a huge James Bond fan ever since! When I saw this on Kindle for under $5, how could I refuse? This is the most informative book you will ever find on the subject of James Bond. Not only do you get a complete listing of the novels and films (up to a certain point -- the time the book was written), but you also find out all sorts of interesting trivia including James Bond's recipe for delicious, buttery scrambled eggs! MMMmmmm, Yummy!

I was utterly surprised when beginning this book. I have learned so many things i did not know. This is very entertaining and I have spent hours reading it already. All the personal details, and tidbits help me enjoy the movies and books even more.

Although dated, this excellent commentary of all things 007 (up until the early 1980s) is essential reading for all true Bond fans. This book, along with Steven Jay Rubin's authoritative The James Bond Films paved the way for all Bond-related books since. Indispensable!

Absolutely adore this labor of love by Bond canon writer Benson. His appreciation of Fleming and of the movie bond come through and his criticism is both thoughtful and thorough. A real must book for a true Bond fan.

This was a great GOT read with humor and history!Can't wait for another one by these two authors!

The book isn't a literary masterpiece and the formatting of the Kindle version was a little weird, but the book is fun, funny, and an insightful look into the religions of Westeros and the people who practice them. Not all of the humor lands, but if you don't laugh out loud at least once a chapter, you might need to lighten up.The book follows a (mostly) consistent format, which is nice and goes something like this:1. Travel guide - a tongue in cheek overview of where you'll find practitioners and what they're all about.2. Deep dive - pretty self-explanatory.3. Historical backdrop - where some of GRR's inspiration may have come from based on similarities to actual history.4. Character Study - a look into a main character who practices a particular religion and how it shaped them as a person.5. Excursus - self-explanatory. A little mini-aside appearing within another section.6. Fun fan theory - self-explanatory7. Bird's eye view - where the religions are analyzed with a more critical eye.If you're a fan of the books, show, or Bald Move's podcast, this is definitely worth a read. There's a million worse ways to spend $10.

As a fan of GRRMs work and the HBO series I find myself listening to three hour podcasts about 45 minutes of television and loving the journey, recap and theory crafting as much as the source material.The authors come together from varied disciplines and backgrounds and form a sort of Medieval Voltron of Game Of Thrones Knowledge.A. Ron eats and sleeps GRRM lore as part of his role in their chart-topping (and entertaining) podcast community (Bald Move). Driven with Anthony's professional studies in religious tradition and equally respectable retention of Song of Ice and Fire lore the authors compliment each other nicely.The book is accessible, enjoyable and helps to provide color commentary to The World of Ice and fire and Game of Thrones universe. It is a fast and easily digestible read and I'm looking forward to more!The authors did their homework and their affection for the material shines through.Seeing that this book came through in (less than ) a year, maybe George Martin should just send A. Ron and Anthony his notes and let them finish up Winds of Winter and Dream of Spring on his behalf.They could be the James SA Corey of Fantasy.. Ned AA Hubbard? Jaqen A.A.H. H'ghar?Thanks for the enjoyable trip through GRRM creation & DD's adaptation. Can't wait for Volume 2!

Just finished reading this great book. I’m an regular listener to Bald Move pod casts, so I was very excited to get more insight into this world. I’ve never read any or GRRM books, so I’m a show only person. I really enjoyed how A. Ron and Anthony were able to cover both without making me feel lost. I loved all the tie-ins to other pop culture. Mostly though I felt like I gained a completely new insight into what is happening and why on GoTh and can not wait for Volume 2.

I am a big fan of the Bald Move podcasts, particularly the Game of Thrones HBO show podcast. I purchased this book because I always loved A.Ron's "tinfoil" segments where he discusses various segments of the books in-depth and dissects fan theories. This book is along those lines, there's lots of amazing detail not in the show/only in the books (I'm an avid reader but just could not get through ASOIAF, my attention span wasn't up for it). I thought it had a lot of great insight and was a fun read. There are lots of cultural references that won't make sense in a few years more than likely, but it makes it light and entertaining.Great job A.Ron and Anthony

This is a well thought out explanation on how GOT handles religion, which unfortunately is not crystal clear on the show or the books. With so many regions and their different belief systems and throw in the Crown approved religion and you have a bigger mess than the current world, which maybe was GRRM’s whole point. This book attempts to untangle the web, and is a useful companion to the books.

Aron and Anthony provide a rich, funny, analysis of the religions of Westeros. Great stuff!

As a newer fan of Bald Move’s Game of Thrones coverage, I recently caught up with all seven seasons of their coverage. This book includes the best of the “spoilore” segments of their podcast, plus deeper insights into how ancient and contemporary religions parallel them. I enjoy background details about GoT and enjoyed reading this. I will definitely be anticipating Volume 2.

I have looked in several stores for an Easter coloring book to do this year and couldn't find one...Leave it to Jade Summer to release the most adorable one!!! I highly recommend this book to people of all ages!! It's just too cute

Perfect for beginners, young artists and those who don't like intricate detail. Pages are duplicated and the back of each page is black. At first I didn't like the duplication, but when two grand daughters came to visit and they both wanted to color the same picture, it was great to have two! We had a coloring party, me, their mom and 2 little girls. Colored and talked, it was great.

I’ve been coloring as a stress reliever for years, which means I was doing this long before the adult coloring books hit the shelves. I’m so glad I bought this book. Some of the pictures are a little more challenging for when you’re lookinh to escape for a while, and some are perfect for a quick way to wind down after work.

Despite all of the complaints about the rhythm of the book (which just seems like a reach of a complaint for a kid's book), I think this is a super cute book. Works great for showing sequencing, naming items, and lore about St. Patrick's Day. The kids get the hang of it by the end, so even non-readers can participate! Pictures are generally cute and the kids love when she burps out a big ol' rainbow at the end of the book. This item arrived on time and was packaged such that it arrived in perfect condition as well, even though it's only a paperback.

Book was in excellent condition for a used book. Fast shipping. Cute story! My toddlers love it!

We love all the old lady book, from There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bell! to There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat!. Each "old lady" book is similar in text pattern, but each story is loved and adored by kids ages three to eight. They are always wondering what in the world the old lady will swallow next and why in the world would she swallow the things she does. In this book, the hungry old lady swallows a chick, some straw, an egg, some candy, a basket, and a bow! The patterns of the text makes it easy for a non-reader to follow along and it is easy enough for an early reader to read. This would make a great addition to a child's Easter Basket or a fabulous gift from a classroom teacher to their students before spring break.

I bought this book, not really knowing what to expect. My 6yo thinks its hilarious and walks around repeating the lines and cracks up afterward. Its a cute book, we enjoyed it very much for St. Patty's Day.

Four year old grandson loves these stories. He finds the rhyming words and silly pictures very engaging.

I would "sing read" all of the "There Was an Old Lady..." stories in my general music classroom. It was a favorite amongst all of my grades...especially my lower elementary students. They always knew when a holiday or new season was approaching, I would pull one of these out. They would sing it with me!

While this isn't one of the best old lady books, my toddler still loves it. Some of the rhyming is a little bad, but it's better than the leaves and turkey book.

My students love this series of books. Repetitive reading that your students can join in with you. They get so excited to see what becomes of all the things the old lady swallows!

Keep in mind that this guide is very pocket, measuring just under 4 by 3 inches square.PROS:-Small, without being too small. It really does fit in a pocket, yet it unfolds to a reasonable size to cover the entire area from the strip to downtown to way out past the airport.-Durable. The lamination is great, and even after a week of frequent use and being jammed into purses and pockets and pulled out in moving buses, it still looked brand new.-Detailed. The map itself is great quality, with all the casino names and major points of interest having clear labels on the map itself. The back is crammed full with footnotes pointing out everything from where to eat, to what to expect at the Atomic Testing Museum.-Cheap. You can grab a copy for just a couple bucks, as of writing.CONS:-Keeping in mind the form factor, there are no major cons.This isn't really an all-around travel book intended to help you plan a whole vacation, but it is perfect as a quick-reference street map and guide. Can't remember where a specific casino destination is? Pop this little guy open, and you're to your information in seconds. Can't figure out where to go tonight? Do a quick scan for nearby points of interest. I'm amazed at the number of authors that write about our Hebrew/black history and totally ignore the Hebrew/black people of the Caribbean, South and Central America when in fact, it was a very small percentage of our ancestors that were actually brought to North America. The majority were sold in the Caribbean (where I'm from), South and Central America.The Caribbean consists of some 28 island nations and over 7000 islands of still predominantly black populations. Blacks in South and Central America are little heard of not because they don't exist, but because for most, they're not recognized as citizens of their country and still suffer discrimination and prejudice beyond what exists in the US. For example, it was only last year that nearly 1.5 million black Mexicans were legally recognized as a people group after a 20 year struggle. There are some 97 million blacks in Brazil, or about 51% of the nation's population, compared to the 38 million or 14% of the US population. Ecuador, Paraguay, Belize and Cuba, to mention a few have large black populations, most if not all, with higher population percentages than here in the US. Many of our Hebrew ancestors who were enslaved in the Caribbean, South and Central America fought for and obtained their freedom, most who did, did so decades before 1865. Yet, this whole segment of the diaspora is continually ignored and our story, which we know and have known very well, isn't mentioned, investigated or recognized, beyond Toussaint L'Overture or Marcus Garvey. Black history is not just what happened in the US. We were scattered to the four corners of the earth and that is where our history is and needs to be represented as well. We didn't all have the same experience in this story, but each one of our experiences is as valid as the next and our story is not complete without each one's account.Having said all that, Mr. Cummings would do well with an experienced proofreader to check his grammar, sentence structure and reference accuracy. I know he says history is an "interest" thus I don't expect a scholarly work, however, technical appropriateness need not be sacrificed.

I found the book to be very informative but the problem are typos and quoting a scripture and not making sure that correct chapter and verse is correct. I found it to be a stumbling block at first and I put the book down for a little. I attempted to read it again. I was able to get pass the errors and get the factional information which is what I need.I have told a lot of people about the books. There are a lot of people not wanting to read the books because of the errors. There assumption is that if he makes mistakes like this what else in his books are incorrect.I on the other hand can over look typos and when their is scripture, I have my Bible handy to make sure he is using the correct one. I am on book 4 and I am learning so much history about myself as a Black personIf I could tell the author one thing it would be to revise all five books (The Negro Question) to correct all the errors. You are not reaching a large proportion of YOUNG people because of the errors in these Books.

The book was very informative. My only complaint is the repeats. Enjoyed reading the author's point of view on some subjects. Not enough information/research provided on other subjects. ALL IN ALL. I did come across a few things I didn't know. Therefore I give the book 4 stars.

Anyone interested about the truth, and their true identity should read it

This book explains the creation and concept of the word Negro and how it has shaped the American perception of who we are as people. It explains how this concept has been used to keep Black people as "the other."

This book is awesome, and I was told by my mother growing up that this kind of information would start coming out soon. this book has the bible as it's reference and it all checks out, the truth will be revealed in these last days and the bible speaks of that also then our Lord will come back.

Very informative, with historical references and, biblical references. Could not believe all the reference related text books that were out there. Thumbs Up!

I am so glad that I purchased this book, it open my eyes to a lot of question I have had all my life. It is a great and resourceful book full of information that you can research yourself, I am serious thinking about ordering the other part of the series.

I was hooked on the first book of Operation Billionaire! Beatrice, Olivia and Rosalind along with their backup gang are a trip! I loved the story with Beatrice and Cole, she is such a klutz and he was so sweet to her. Olivia and Cole, she is a mom with a heart of gold and active ovaries but Cole fought the attraction but in the end his heart won out. Finally Rosalind and Orlando, I couldn't stop laughing throughout the book. The time she tried to climb a tree had me in tears from laughing so hard. Orlando, the pipe guy had a heart of gold and a sense of humor to go with it.I am sorry but I am not a fan of Elise Sax mystery series. I wish she would write more books like this series. She is very gifted in humor and romance.

So many laugh out loud moments. This is the kind of book you cannot put down. I want to get to the ending but I also do not want it to end. Great read.

This one might be my favorite of the Operation Billionaire trilogy. I still laughed my head off and fell in love with the characters.

Rosalind is the last one left of the Billionaire Girls Club. She's on her way to meet and marry a billionaire in Bora Bora. Problem is that, on the way, she is pushed out of a plane with the only other passenger and, they end up marooned on this island in the middle of nowhere. Orlando is quite the hottie but, Rosalind is determined to marry for financial comfort, not love or sexual gratification!!! That gets a woman nowhere!!!Orlando finds Rosalind gorgeous, strong, determined and, a huge pain in the neck!!! He also finds her the hottest woman he has ever met!!! These two have to find a way to survive on this island with nothing but one set of clothes and a lighter. Somehow or another, they manage this, while also managing to find other things they have in common-like physical things to keep their bodies busy, if not their minds!Rosalind is fine with this, as long as there are NO emotions involved!!! Really???!!!This story is one you can't put down and, also one that is HILARIOUSLY FUNNY and Really Sweet!!!Don't miss it!!!

The funniest one yet! I think I laughed for five chapters straight. Rosalind is the last member of Operation Billionaire and she's determined to "get" her boss during a business trip to Bora Bora. A little misadventure with the airplane has her stranded with Orlando, the buff-tough-dumb-jock-guy. He is her absolute opposite in every way yet the sparks fly quickly with sarcastic sexually charged wit. Their circumstances aren't funny but Orlando's attempts to alleviate the stress are hysterical and heartwarming. Love a good stranded on an island story, not like Gilligan, but one that brings laughter and sexy times. Always happy to receive an early copy, my review was written voluntarily.

Elise Sax NEVER fails to make me laugh! The banter & crazy situations lead up to so many laugh out loud moments. The last book in the Operation Billionaire Trilogy is definitely my favorite!
