Strongly recommend youngsters to read the book.

What a nifty little history. This book is certain to be the last word on chowder (not just clam) for years to come. The authors strike a good balance between rhapsodic and scholarly. If you're looking for the origins of the word chowder, the first recipes, literary references to chowder or the fraught histories of the constituent ingredients, you'll find it here. How I long to have lived in the days of the great chowder parties described here, when chowder masters strode New England like demigods. I also loved the artistic photos throughout the book. Chowder has never looked so beautiful than posed here in a beach in a Le Creuset pot at dusk . My only complaint is the faint hostility toward tomato in chowder. The authors say it began "littering stewpots" in southern New England in the 1870s. Here in a Rhode Island we like clear, tomato and milk chowders all alike, although the authors say we are too small a state for so many options. But it's all in fun when it comes to opinions about what the authors call "this most social dish." This most superb book deserves a wide readership.

I spend much time sailing the coast of New England and having chowder at every opportunity trying to figure the existential meaning of chowder and the wide varieties I find. Then I ran into this book -- and, now I know. The thing that amazes me about this book is how well written it is. Even if I weren't a chowder eater, this is an entertaining text in its own right that I'd completely enjoy. The history covered in the book of the beginning of this country is an excellent prospective of how times change and how they stay the same. The varieties of recipes are particularly interesting (and tasty).Get it. Read it. Have some laughs, Eat some chowder. You'll love it.Now I'd like to see them write one on Chili in the US.

After taking the exam in December 2006, you would be better off buying and reviewing the latest version of Campbell Reece 'Biology' textbook to study for the GRE Biology Exam. This Kaplan book needs a revision as it is misrepresenting a lot of the information that was presented on the exam.I would say that this book is good reference for a high school biology teacher.

This is one of the best GRE subject books for any person trying to score high on the GRE exam in Biology. It covers everything you need to know in detail. The illustrations, the diagrams, the graphs, the charts, are all very helpful too. They even show you some basic math to help you understand everything better and for it to make sense for you. It has three sections Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, and Ecology and Evolution. I could not put it down it was so helpful and I understood everything that they wrote down. This book is very specific and as mentioned above and thorougly explains everything without you saying this is too much. There are about 14-15 practice questions at the end of each section and the answers are explained fully. The end of the book there are 200 questions that cover everything that you read in the book and the answers are again fully explained at the end. I am not a good multiple choice test taker but after reading about 10 pages on a certain topic I answered the question correctly at the end. I highly recommend this book you will definately score higher on the GRE subject. Even if you are not a good test taker you will most likely get a higher score! The book might I add is interesting to read too and is very thought provoking.

This book is accessible and covers much of the exam material in the depth you need to know it. However, it glosses over plant biology (a very major component of the exam) as well as much of the animal physiology and evolution material it contains. It was very frustrating on exam day to see all kinds of information not covered in this book -- and I'm not talking specifics here but GENERAL CONCEPTS. If your undergraduate biology study was more focused (i.e. you haven't had development or plant bio or physiology or evolution or cell bio), you're probably better off taking an in-depth review of the Campbell general biology textbook (an older edition of which I'm sure you could get cheaply and not feel bad marking up). Also, if inconsistent diagrams and lapses in text editing aren't really your cup of tea, this book might not be for you.

For those of you who are considering taking the Biology GRE subject test, please do not buy this version. It is virtually the same at the older (2nd) edition which is a lot cheaper than this one. Don't be fooled by Kaplan and the so-called 2007-2008 edition. I repeat, this version is virtually the same as the previous edition. The only reason I'm giving this book a 5 stars is because it is indeed an excellent book for preparing the subject test. Peace.

You might as well buy any version you want for a test you will take soon, but I did find this book very helpful for reviewing without much time to do so. The situation will change when the test goes electronic, however. In that case the old versions will likely be obsolete.

This book was exactly what I needed. I haven't taken the test yet, but it's a great resource for studying and I have confidence that it will help give me at least a basic idea of what to expect. Shipped quickly. I'm very satisfied.

This is my favorite piano book. I love Mozart, and these are written for a beginner, yet they still sound like the real song.And both treble and bass notes are given in easy lessons.

I'm a beginning pianist. These songs in the book are simplified so that a beginner can enjoy the world of Mozart. There are different composers in this series. I got Beethoven also. If you want to learn to play these by ear, there is a link to an online website you can go to that will let yo hear the MP3 version of what these songs are supposed to sound like when played properly. I have played a few of the songs and did OK. I have never had a formal lesson, and am self-taught. But in my opinion, everyone who learns piano should have sheet music from various genres in their sheet music library. Classical music like this was pretty much why pianos were invented. They go hand in hand, so I'm pretty pleased with this sheet music. Some of the songs are abridged though, but if you are just starting out, this should not bother you too much. It will be an opportunity to learn the basic structure of the classical music pieces anyway, and you can always add more complicated pieces later as you improve.

This is definitely for a beginner piano player but I love Mozart on any level. The best thing about the book is that it gives a web site address where you can listen to the songs being played. It's helpful for those still learning how to 'count' the notes to hear the songs played at the correct speed and tempo.

Having to turn pages while playing piano (which requires 2 hands ) is a bit annoying. I think the page layout could have been altered to suit playing music, easier.

I like the first book editions, helps me expand my own playing!

From one genius to another, from Mozart to my grandson Jack, was a most appropriate and appreciated piano play book. Compositions by the 7-year-old Mozart were an inspiration to my 7-year-old grandson and were much to his delight.
