I bought this specifically for the meal planner and was very disappointed. I am sure the numbers work out just right each day for the given number of calories and the balance of carbs, protein and fat, but the amount of time needed each day to follow the plan does not work for me at all. The breakfast recipes for the first week of the plan that I selected required baking a dish for an hour 5 days of the week, and half an hour on the other two days of the week. I work full time and don't have that kind of time to prepare the recipe, bake it, eat it, clean up, and get out the door to work. Not to mention the number of servings per recipe are all over the map. For that same week of breakfasts, two recipes were 4 servings, three recipes were 8 servings, and one recipe was 9 servings. We are a household of two people. I cannot afford to buy groceries in those amounts and what am I supposed to do with all the extra food left over? The meal plan also called for drinking nonfat milk every morning at breakfast and 5 evenings of the week as well. I don't drink milk at all and trying to figure out exchanges for that twice a day is ridiculous. And don't even get me started on the Smart Balance and Splenda in almost every recipe. This book may be helpful for a stay at home Mom who has all day to cook but just not practical otherwise.

I am type 2 diabetic. I purchased this as an ebook on 8/3/16. I wanted to use it a while before writing a review. I think results speak for themselves. I lost 24 lbs, my blood pressure is consistently 100/68, but more importantly my a1c is now 5.1 and I am off insulin. I thought I was eating healthy before and yet my glucose remained elevated. I clearly needed help with meal planning and portion control. I have followed the meal plans exactly as written. I find the recipes surprisingly tasty and easy to prepare. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is frustrated with the struggle to control their glucose.

Did the author actually eat any of the food from the recipes in this book? I will skip all of the artificial, organic, and transfat complaints and just say that the recipes taste horrible. Sweetener is added when no sweetener is needed. What's the deal with just adding wheat flour to about every recipe? I actual cooked the Orange chicken recipe following the recipe exactly and I got black tar covered chicken that tasted like a orange frosting. Most of the recipes remind me of diet recipes from the 70's that my mother would force us to eat. If you are trying to make it difficult for some one newly diagnosed with diabetes to stay on a diet, mission accomplished.

The recipes are not consistent for how many people they serve. The go from 4, 5, 6 or 8 servings. It is very difficult to figure out how much 1 serving would be. Also, they seem to be somewhat unrealistic in size. They also have too many ingredients that are difficult to find and I would not like anyway. I am not using it at all and will probably donate it in the near future.

Love this book. Good advice and tips about meal planning The recipes are very good. I found my favorite whole wheat blueberry muffin recipe here. Some of the recipes appear in more than one season which I didn't mind. I don't want to reinvent the wheel every time I cook. I do substitute natural ingredients for some of the artificial ones called for in the some recipes. I use Truvia instead of Splenda and butter or olive oil instead calorie-reduced spread. Calories are a bit higher but still better than what I would have with recipes from a conventional cookbook.

many of the recipes are duplicated. The yearly cycles are not consistent with ideas set forth. Most of the recipes have artificial sweetners and low fat oils both of which I do not believe are very healthy.

This is a great book! It is THE most helpful with recipes, menu plans you can switch around and listed by calorie diets. You couldn't pay me enough to get this book away from me.

Has lots of recipes and meal planing for a full year. But if you followed the meal plans you would be making every meal and snack from scratch, who has time for that? Even being retired I can't do that. But used a resource it's still very much worth it, I'll just amend my current plans to include some of the new recipes.
