"The Heart of a Texas Cowboy" is a historical western romance / adventure about a marriage of convenience and a quest for justice against a mad stalker and his gang of outlaws.Houston Legend's heart was forever shattered when a man gunned down his wife-to-be, Becca, minutes before they're to be wed, only to reveal her utter betrayal. He swore he would never marry or love again... Only to be forced into a marriage of convenience... His father had gambled and lost a good portion of their ranch to the Boone's in an adjoining plot, and the older Boone did not want their land. What he wanted was for Houston to marry his daughter, Lara Boone... but there's a catch. Lara Boone had been violated by a ruthless outlaw by the name of Yuma Blackstone and gave birth to a daughter. Houston's marriage to Lara will ensure the daughter will not be a bastard... no one else has to know. Houston was angry, but accept that it is his duty to the family ranch... But the sight of Lara took his breath away... Lara was beautiful, but a knife wound sliced her cheek, leaving a long scar. Houston found himself drawn to the quiet courage of Lara to continue living, even as they learned that Yuma is still out there, despite the Boone's having moved across the state to get away from the crazy criminal. When Houston and his brothers, as well as the drivers, have to take the Longhorn herd to market, Lara and baby Gracie had to come along as the camp cook when the cook's wife fell ill. They'd found passion as Lara worked on her courage to consummate their marriage... and also found Yuma and his gang of cutthroats are on their trail. When Yuma's gang attack, who will be left standing?Long at 384 pages, but there's a lot of action, to keep things moving. The bad guy is a bit psycho, but that's the way it is in the stories. The final battle was not as deus ex machina as it seemed, for it was nicely setup with at least two mentions. All in all, satisfying story.
"She'd found a man who could shine a light on the dark places and make her heart sing. And he already belonged to her."The Heart of a Texas Cowboy is a beautiful Historical Western Romance focusing on two broken characters. Houston Legend agrees to a marriage of convenience to Lara Boone, who is a single mother of a baby. Both don't want or expect love from this 'marriage' but sometimes things fall perfectly in place. This book is a slow-burn romance, and I love that the author took her time for these two characters to heal and connect. I have to admit I did want the pace of some parts to pick up a bit, however at the end I felt like the story had a great pacing. It made it possible for me to feel like I was one with the characters, and I got a good idea of how life was back in those days.I especially loved reading the progression of Houston and Lara's relationship. Lara was very skittish in the beginning, but was also a very strong and opinionated woman. These two were perfect together, and I loved seeing them interact. Also the way Houston handled the baby was so sweet, I just couldn't get enough. Besides the main characters, the side characters were also very intriguing and I hope they will or already have their own books. The Heart of a Texas Cowboy is another great story by Linda Broday, and I can't wait to read more of her books. The only thing I was missing was an epilogue, I would've loved to see what Houston and Lara were up to a couple of years later.
This is only the third Linda Broday book I have had the pleasure of reading, but it will not be the last. However, this review will be somewhat different than my other reviews because, with this book, not only the book but the author deserve to be reviewed. First, the book, "The Heart of a Texas Cowboy" is unlike any western romance I have ever read. This Legend series has shown what a true cowboy is like, but in this book, Houston shows the true grit that made up a real cowboy. He fought what he had to and he loved as hard as he fought. He saw beauty where it truly reigns, in the heart and soul of a woman, not in the superficial beauty too many men look for. And a child was a Heaven-sent gift, no matter who conceived them. As a matter of fact, Houston and Lara could teach a great many people today about true, unconditional love. If you miss this book, you will have missed a treasure. I do not want to spoil the story so will not give any more facts about the story. Suffice it to say, if I never read another book, I will have read one of the best. Now for Mrs. Broday. It isn't often that an author can capture my imagination to the point that I cannot wait to get back to my book. This lady goes beyond talent. She has a God-given talent that most of us wish we had in some form or other. When she puts words together, they reach out and grab you and do not let you go until you have absorbed the entire story. You will shed tears, you will laugh out loud, you will want to thrash some of the characters for being so obtuse and not seeing what is right in front of their face, you will want to shake them, hold them, heal them, etc. I could go on and on, but to summarize, her characters come alive and draw you into their story. This is an author that has a lot more stories to tell. I, for one, will be willing to read each and every one. To Ms. Linda Broday, thank you and please keep them coming or as Houston would say, "Keep those dogies moving."
This book is fabulous! I’ve spent a wonderful day reading this book and enjoying every minute. There are moments when my heart is in my throat; there are times I drop a tear with sadness; there are times I love Henry to pieces. Never in all the books I’ve ever read, has there been a Henry that touched me so much. He is such an integral part of the story that he became my “heroâ€â€¦ Thanks for including him in this book. I loved Houston to the max and felt the pain and anguish when he lost his love. Then again, I adored his big heart when he found Lara and became her “life†and protector. This book has everything and can be enjoyed by adults as there are sensual scenes which are written to perfection.
