I am a new AR owner and I am happy with this book. The vast majority of the book is a listing, by manufacturer, of all current AR-15 guns (126 pages out of 234). There are photos of most, with a short list of specifications for each gun (action, stock, barrel, rear sight, front sight, weight, caliber, magazine, features, MSRP). Although far from a comprehensive description of each model, it is surprising to me how much I like having this brief summary of AR's all in one place. There are relatively short but well photographed/documented sections on the history of the AR-15, cleaning, breaking down, customizing and accessorizing. A very brief overview of ammunition types and manufacturers (not all manufacturers) runs less than 10 pages. There are 26 pages of Optics, in a similar format to the gun listing, with a more narrative style description of features and the MSRP. Not every optic is pictured, but the ones that are shown are very good photographs. 10 pages of discussion on sporting/hunting AR's is likely an overview as well, but since I am not a hunter I cannot comment with any accuracy. It is certainly not enough info to make you a veteran, but it is far easier to get a digestible overview by spending $15 on this book than from reading online articles and message boards piecemeal (as much as I appreciate both). It takes some of the mystery and intimidation out of approaching this field, and I suddenly feel more comfortable delving into greater detail on various aspects after owning this book for a week than I did after a month of perusing online message boards.Like another reviewer pointed out, there is nothing on shooting or tactical employment. Again per the same reviewer, the discussion on slings is less than one page total and primarily serves to introduce a beginner to the idea that this is a topic worth researching in greater depth. For this beginner, it hits the right note.

The Shooter's Bible Guide to AR-15s An uncomprehensive Reference to the AR-15. This is a nice little AR-15 coffee table book with alot of nice pictures, brands and prices. It's worth the price and nice to have. HOWEVER you will not gain any technical knowledge from it. It's simply a Shooter's Bible edition focused on the AR-15. If you are hoping to learn about AR-15s look up Patrick Sweeney and select one of his books on the subject. Learn Foreward, Rich

What a waste of money. You'll find better info online. It's outdated, incomplete, confusing and unorganized. It's like a giant advertising for AR rifles and accessories rather than a good technical information book I thougt I was buying. Completely wasted my time and good earned money!!!!

Decent information, but very basic. Also, moderately outdated. Innovation has advanced since this was printed, but it gives a decent idea of what's out there for someone who has no clue.

For me, this book deserves 10 Stars and I can't recommend it enough! Whether you are new to family research, like me, or have been involved in tracing your tree for years, you will find some something of value to push through any blocks you may have encountered. I've only been researching my family for about 3 months now, so it's all new information to me and after exhausting every avenue I could think of, Ms. Rising's book helped me to find completely new leads I wouldn't have thought to explore.There is a branch of my family that has told a very romantic family story for generations, involving my 3x great grandparents' lives in a volatile area in Southwest Missouri during the Civil War. I love family lore, but I wanted to find the documentation that would either support the stories, or clarify the actual events as they truly occurred because the truth means more to me than stories that can and DO get embellished over the years. I had many challenges to overcome (courthouse burned TWICE, leaving practically zero trace of them), and this book has helped me enormously in looking at the bigger picture of not just names and dates, but the people who lived lives as we do today, as members of a family and a community, which can open floodgates of information to explore where previously there was only a brick wall. As a result of following Ms. Rising's tactics I have found documented facts that I wouldn't have found otherwise and the picture that's forming is far more intriguing than the family lore!Whether your challenge is, like mine, no county records, or family from the difficult years prior to the 1850 Federal Census, or a family with a dozen men named John, this book can help you navigate the unknowns. There are no magic answers, of course, and I have several ancestors I doubt I'll ever get to the bottom of, but this book has helped me tremendously in knowing I have uncovered every crumb trail my ancestor may have left behind. And in the case of my burned courthouse family, I have found a much deeper story than I think I would've found had those county records been readily available because being new to family research, I probably wouldn't have thought to dig even deeper or wider into their community to find the nuggets I have found, including the documentation to support them! Highly recommended!

I've been tracing family for almost twenty years, and have hit some brick walls along the way. While this book hasn't solved them all yet, it has given me many ideas for new approaches. This book is full of tips and tricks, and information that I never knew about using records but now know to look for. I have started a second reading of the book. My only criticism is that the font size for the actual book is a bit small for my old eyes, but I purchased the kindle edition also and was able to read it easily on my computer and use the highlighting feature extensively. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in conducting serious genealogical research.

Now that I'm finally reading this book, I wish I had read it a lot earlier in my search for relatives. A lot of the hints and advice I have already figured out by trial and error. The Problem Solver is an excellent book in my opinion and I would recommend it to anyone who is doing their family tree and having difficulty finding information. I would have saved myself a lot of time, effort and paper by having this information at an earlier date. Better late than never I always say.

Offers techniques that are sound and proven. Helps even experienced genealogists avoid pitfalls. Offers new (to me) ways of researching. This one's a keeper!

I bought this book because it was highly recommended in a webinar presentation I heard. The speaker said it was her "go to" book for all sorts of challenges. After reading the book, I can see why she was so impressed. It is not just a collection of bits and pieces of information, but is organized cohesively so that the whole process makes sense . I have already applied some of the ideas in this book, but more importantly, I've reorganized my limited skills in researching, so that I know what I need to look for next.

There is no question this is a very well-written book. Marsha Hoffman Rising presents her ideas with practical examples that anyone who is entrenched in genealogy can implement immediately. The two main concepts which I took from her include: Dealing with the problems in the years before 1850 and using information from collateral lines, neighbors, and community to help uncover information about your direct line and provide clues to migration patterns.The only disappointment I have does not involve the main ideas she put forward, as those were well-done. As she says on the cover, these are "Tried-and-True Tactics for Tracing Elusive Ancestors." Her ideas are not new. I was hoping there would be new, innovative, out-side-the-box ideas to use. For those of us who have been engaged with trying to break through those walls, we have heard these ideas before in one form or another.I don't want to discourage anyone from purchasing this book, because it is a worthwhile read. However, if you are an advanced genealogist, looking for novel ideas to break through a brick wall, you may be disappointed.

This was one of the first substantial genealogy guides I read when I was trying to take my genealogy skills to the next level with formal education. I learned a ton of good stuff from it that I did not learn just by doing genealogy. Sometimes you really need guides, etc, to open your eyes to new methods to solve problems. I recommend it.

The author of this book, Steve Lehto, did an excellent job of chronicling this part of American automotive history. His style of writing and organization of the subject matter makes this book totally enjoyable reading.

This book needed to be written - I am very glad that Steve has finished it and that he did such a great job on writing it.Steve Lehto is a master of making history into a readable and interesting dialog with the reader. I knew most of the story from my own research and acquaintance with many of the contributors before Steve started. So when I say I found the book extremely well written and able to capture and hold my attention, which means it is just plain good! Bravo Steve for giving the world a record in print of not only the unique cars but the people who created then and had the chance to drive them.After I received my copy I found it very hard to put down. I knew how it ended and as I already knew most of the story from my own research but the chronological and quickly moving manner Mr. Lehto put the whole book together made it an absolute joy to read and remember.If you count yourself a "gear head" of any age and love to read a lot of "inside" information about technology and vehicles in particular, you must read this book! If you enjoy stories about people who were dedicated engineers, visionary designers and creative dreamers, you need to read this book!History can be boring and dry or it can come alive, Steve has brought life back to a story that should have been told so our children and grandchildren can know that the 60's were not only about peace protests, the Viet Nam war, assassinations and bad corporations. Mr. Lehto shows that innovation and concern for the future was a common theme running through the people who wanted to see the piston engine replaced by an exciting and wonderful engine - the turbine.I am the son of one of the 203 users and drove one of the Chrysler/Ghia turbine cars in 1965.

Steve Lehto's book on the Chrysler Turbine brought back memories of my teen years. I turned 16 in 1964, so this story took place when I was really car crazy. Steve Lehto captures the intensity of the dreams of that era. I recall the trips to the store to by the latest car magazines, Road & Track, Car and Driver, Motor Trend. It was all good. The Chrysler Turbine's looks were Elwood Engel's idea (formerly a Ford designer whose great legacy included the 61 Lincoln Continental and the 4 seat Thunderbird. I never got to see the Chrysler Turbine in person.Lehto's account of the Chyrsler Turbine captures how the dreams of the early 1960's in so many other ways had turned to crap by 1966. Most of the downfall came as a result of corporate financial and government political bungling. Lehto captures in a snapshot what happened. There is plenty of irony here: Chrysler in the 1960's was a company run by accountants that nonetheless was going broke. The government bureaucrats who were supposedly trying to undo the environmental damage cause by the automobile kept changing the rules such that the engineers trying to fix the problems were running around in circles.The pictures of the car are dazzling. The Chrysler Turbine looks so much better than the cars of today. Steve Lehto's book Chrysler's Turbine Car is a trip back to the future.

A quick and enjoyable read for anyone who loves cars, but also enjoyable from an engineering perspective (even though the author freely admits that his grasp of the technical details is on the rudimentary side). It's interesting to wonder how automotive history might have changed if Chrysler had managed to work up even a minimal production run of these unique turbine-powered machines. If nothing else, it's worth it just for the personal stories and recollections of the many test families who were able to enjoy the turbine prototypes. My only gripe is that this is the tip of the iceberg where Chrysler's engineering staff is concerned - from aerospace projects to high-tech electronics and beyond, they had a hand in many of the important technological advancements of the 1960s and 1970s. Still, a great story about a great moment in motordom.

This a great book if you are either looking into starting a small business in Lawn Services. I bought it for my husband who is looking into starting a side gig apart from his fulltime job. He's not much of a reader but he definitely liked this book. He said that it really gets down to the point and very easy to read. He highly recommends it.
