Studying for your MCSA? Do not rely on this book alone. The test makers do not write the study materials--in fact, I don't even think the test writers and study material writers even communicate. The exam objectives on Microsoft's website list what you might expect to find in the test, and I imagine the authors of this book did their best in covering the material, but I found this book to lack so much information and detail.To be fair, the amount of material you're expected to know is staggering, but still, entire exam objectives like Web Application Proxy--a huge topic--were only mentioned in one paragraph. Disappointing.This book does succeed only insofar as an additional resource to other study sources. In that instance, it can have value. James Conrad does a great 70-411 course on CBTNuggets, TechNet has the most crucial information, and lab, lab, lab, lab. Successfully passing these exams requires an almost eidetic memory of menus, options, features, cmdlets, etc. This book in addition to the resources I just mentioned can definitely make a difference.However if you're looking for a one-stop-shop for the 70-411, this book will disappoint.

I wish I had read the reviews before hand which I always do but I have had good experience in the past with Sybex that's why I did not bother to read them but this book is a total waste of money. I wanted a book to go along with my Plural sight videos but this is very incomplete. It does not cover all topics as mentioned. I started with Chapter 2 for DFS and it just sucked. No good explanation and no demos. Will use it for my chimney!!

To the editors: "What would you say ya do here?" // The book is very rough and leaves one feeling a little confused sometimes. It begins by letting you know how it is going to help you with the MCITP exam (not the exam the test is for), and then the first chapter starts off reviewing what you have learned in the previous chapters (there aren't any previous chapters...). After this weird start, the author ramps up for a chapter about "measuring performance and troubleshooting failures" only to go into sections about WDS and WSUS. I haven't finished the book yet, but the first half has been lackluster.

This book is essentially useless for the exam 70-411. To say that I was disappointed is an understatement.Entire sections of content were completely omitted. Complicated topics that needed fleshing out and description were one paragraph in a single chapter. I will not be using this series for my studies with the 70-412. It is a waste and a joke.

This book does not cover all the material for the exam. Use the book, your own labs and practice exams. Then based on how you do with practice exams look online for resources on the areas that need reinforcement. Here is where you see that a lot of material is not in the book.

This is an excellent write-up. It goes over all the little basic stuff, which I like. It's not overkill, it's just enough. Perfect.

Don't buy this book . Book does not cover everything it states it will cover . It starts a paragraph and live unfinished.

Although you can't jugdge a book by it's cover, when you take this book, and on the cover you see it's for the EXAM 70-411, and on the very same cover, it says : "Covers 100% of exam 70-412 objectives ..." you know something is not right.The book is filled with a lot of filler: words and words and words, there only to fill space and add pages to the required length:An example: On page 133, Using the nslookup command, setp 1 is totally irrelevant and superfluous, adding 4 lines, when it should have sufficed only one short sentence :"Open cmd prompt". Like this 4 superfluous lines, you have plenty,some awfully blatant like this "Introducing DNS" :"Owing largely to the popularity of the Internet, however, most environments have transitioned to use Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) as their primary networking protocol. Microsoft is no exception when it comes to supporting TCP/IP " ... and it goes on and on.I think it should be pretty obvious that "the internet is popular nowadays", and that "Microsoft is supporting TCP/IP", especially obvious to the addressed reader of this book.The information, although superfluous, is right, and William Panek is an author that I respect, but the copy-editing is beyond bad: in Appendix A, where you have the answer to the end of chapter review questions, it goes from "Chapter 3:" to "Chapter 5", only to find that really, "Chapter 5" should be "Chapter 4", and so on.... It's a pitty so sloppy and rushed copy editting to an otherwise good book

Being a collection of almost independently written chapters, its exposition style not always internally consistent, however, if you are willing to overlook that and are willing to put some effort into understanding what is being said, you will find it quite useful. Refreshingly, it covers both traditional and Bayesian approach to regression modeling. Even though it is advertised as a reference for insurance professionals, the material covered applies to virtually any area of predictive analytics, including healthcare, market research, reliability and fraud analysis. Given its value to the practitioner, it is definitely a worthy purchase. I am looking forward to Volume II.

It is a gooD book introducinG many modern models and aproaches to everdyday problem of someone involved with insurance industries, they are self contained within each chapter so in case you need to read any particular approach to problem there is no problem, explanations are clear, do not expect something easy to understand because o this, the content is at a high mathematical level, but most of the techniques involve applications through software, especially R , so it is a good book on it's own

I hope you have better things to do with your life than reading this dreadfully organized book of boredom and pedantic nitty-grittiness.

It occupies a unique position at the intersection of traditional statistical methods and machine learning algorithms. Practitioners of the art of model-building can benefit from the knowledge base provided by both disciplines. This excellent compendium focuses mainly on the statistical side of the equation. It offers comprehensive coverage of the relevant statistical techniques and can serve as a valuable reference and resource. The editors should be commended for the high quality of both the content and writing maintained throughout.Each chapter is almost a stand-alone mini-textbook on a particular method, and is introduced by a brief and informative summary. Each method is illustrated with well-developed insurance-related applications and R code for implementing the analyses. The presentation is sometimes at a fairly high mathematical level, but remains firmly moored to practical applications. Although the context is actuarial science, it may well be of interest to a wider audience.Perhaps the editors can be persuaded to undertake an equally impressive volume devoted to the machine-learning side of predictive modeling. Personally, I would like to see chapters dealing with various popular machine-learning techniques such as CART, Lasso, neural nets, genetic algorithms, KNN etc. Chapters on such supervised learning techniques would complement the excellent chapter by Louise Francis on unsupervised learning in the current volume. In any case, I look forward to the second planned companion volume that will present a wide range of case studies on actual projects.

I bought both the Kindle version and the hard cover. Below are my comments:Kindle version is difficult to follow since a lot of the mathematical notations show up in bigger fonts and in picture format than actual text. -- strongly not recommend buying the kindle versionThe book was written by multiple authors split up by chapter. Each chapter has examples. About 2/3 of the chapters either have no data or have dataset posted but without the R code to supplement it. When contacting authors for the R code for chapter examples, most of them are reluctant to share. Therefore, this book is not as useful as it seems.

Great story, lovely illustrations

I think adults may appreciate this one more than the children will. I've attempted to read it to my younger sisters (ages 4 and 6) and they're just not into it. It's a beautifully illustrated book with an interesting and tragic story, and you might want to save it for those a little older.

There wasn't much to the story, the art work is nice but not compelling. Still overall it was good. Amazon shipped in an envelope instead of hard packaging to it arrived slightly damaged. It got donated to the library book sale.

An exceptionally fine treatment of the work of this major artist. Exemplary design. Excellent balance between text and image. Articulate, informative and readable. The book's clean presentation, w/its attention to image size and surrounding white areas, and selection/location/variation of images on the page, is faithful to Judd's purism and formalism. I would also recommend Dietmar Elger's "Donald Judd Colorist" (Hatje Cantz), which is marginally more refined than the Raskin (if that's possible) in its more condensed and formal treatment. - Conversely, while I'm at it, "Chinati: The Vision of Donald Judd", is profoundly disappointing in its presentation. Extremely cluttered, mostly w/full and near-full page bleeds of images spread across 2 pages w/a fold down the center, it is a coffee-table book in the most banal sense: large, eye-catching, visually aggressive, and aesthetically lacking. I can't believe Judd would have liked it.

Beautiful photographs. Includes TWO photos of each work. This addresses a problem with the photos in many books on Judd's work: with only one photo (often nearly head on) you can't really tell what's going on. This book addresses that and the photos and printing are lovely. It also has pictures of the gallery space showing groups of works, and they have an ethereal, otherworldly quality that's a bit different than any other presentation of his work I've seen.

Raskin starts with some of the most apparently austere art of the twentieth century--Donald Judd's so-called 'minimal' sculptures comprised of industrial materials like steel, plywood, plexiglass, and concrete--and shows that they are properly understood when we see them as creating relationships of values. In Raskin's challenging but rewarding account, Judd's art turns out to be not just another post-war instance of art's 'reduction' to ever more attenuated forms (as pedestrian histories of minimalism would have it), but about the most important things in experience; namely, about our modes of encountering the world and others. Raskin helps us see what Judd called art's "scale": not just a property of objects, but an articulation of an individual's ways of thinking, feeling, and believing.

This is a beautifully produced book, lavishly illustrated. The text is less impressive: it's very argumentative without actually following through with a convincing case. It's one of those aggressive books young men tend to write that tries to sweep away all the big names but without carefully unpacking an alternative case. The best chapter is on Judd's engagment with politics where this is less evident. The actual engagement with Judd's work is cursory and a bit pedestrian.

Raskin's study is at once wide-ranging in its erudition, yet accessible and a pleasure to read. It is a major addition to the literature on Judd and, indeed, Minimalism.

I tried to like this book. I really did, but I failed, The idea for the story is a good one. Some of the characters are interesting. Grace Humiston, the lead character, was a real person and is very interesting. The settings are pretty good. It is based on a true story about the disappearance of an 18-year-old girl in New York city in 1917. However, the whole book is really confusing. Back and forth in time. Back and forth with various events. A meaningless prologue about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I just eventually lost interest. A straightforward telling of the story would have worked better.

I’m keeping my original “review” below but updating this and adding three stars. Once I got into the book I could not stop reading; pulled an all-nighter in fact. This was a thrilling read. You can ignore what I said below. Just give yourself time to get into it. What the author doesn’t explain well is that he took most of the dialogue and information from contemporaneous sources and tried not to change the original much. That makes some phrasing and passages quite choppy or awkward. But with that knowledge, you can ignore it and get into the thrill of the thing. If it doesn’t infuriate you how “Mrs. Sherlock Holmes” was treated! She so deserves to be known. Her work exposed heinous practices and literally saved lives.—-Original:Apparently book reviews don’t let readers ask questions of reviewers but I have one: Would I be better served to skip every other chapter and stick to chapters in the same timeframe? And circle back to the others later?I just started this book and I’m already irked by it. I’m going to finish it because my book club chose it and I was drawn to the subject and perspective. But the writing is incredibly stilted, unnecessarily so. Maybe Ricca wants it to read like a police blotter, but who can stand that? I was a reporter covering police and believe me, you do not want to read an entire book of police reports. It would be like actually reading 10 Johnny Dollar radio shows, all in a row. Just listening to one at a time is sufficient.Mostly however I cannot stand the jumping between decades. There seems to be no literary reason for it. So far.So I’m going to try reading one story and one timeframe through and then go back to the earlier story/timeframe and read that. Maybe thus my ADD won’t go off the rails.I’m hoping some sympathetic soul reading this will let me know if that’s a waste of time and that I should just slog straight through this for some benefits I’m not seeing yet.

Grace Humiston was an enterprising and intelligent woman in early twentieth century New York City. She earned a law degree at a time when that was almost impossible for a woman, and then set herself up as an advocate for the disadvantaged, charging minimal fees and working tirelessly, sometimes for years, on seemingly hopeless cases. She had a flair for publicity and made good copy, so she received a lot of coverage from the many competing newspapers in New York and nationwide. "Mrs. Sherlock Holmes" was an apt nickname, because she demonstrated the same sort of intuitive intelligence and deductive abilities as Doyle's creation. This biography by Brad Ricca covers a number of Mrs.Humiston's cases, skipping back and forth over a period of about fifteen years during which her career was at its height.The case Ricca chose to give most of his attention to is that of Ruth Cruger, a 17 year old girl who disappeared in February, 1917. The search for her became a cause celebre in New York City. Grace Humiston was quick to take part in the investigation because the Cruger case exemplified one of her pet peeves against the police and media of the time: they always seemed to assume that a missing girl or woman had eloped, or that she was unhappy at home and had run away, or that something else not very sinister had happened to her. Humiston advocated for crimes against women to be taken more seriously, and warned that many young girls in New York were being kidnapped by white slavers. The Cruger case was interesting and did in the end come to a resolution, but I felt that some of the other cases Ricca also covered were even more compelling, especially the lengthy investigation by Humiston and her associates of a peonage case involving Italian immigrants on a large Mississippi plantation. Humiston also investigated several Death Row cases and was able to achieve reprieves or even commutations in several cases where she uncovered new evidence. Unfortunately her later career was somewhat overshadowed by controversial charges she made that soldiers at a military base were systematically abusing and murdering young women, but even so Humiston's tireless advocacy for women, minorities, and other disadvantaged peoples deserves to be remembered.Overall I enjoyed Mrs. Sherlock Holmes though I found it a bit disjointed at times, jumping back and forth between cases over a period of about fifteen years. It's understandable that Ricca chose the Cruger case as a major framework for telling Humiston's story, but nevertheless the lack of a real denouement for the case (due to circumstances beyond Humiston and Ricca's control) made that part somewhat disappointing. I was also puzzled by the foreword's description of a 1914 visit by Arthur Conan Doyle to New York City, which really had very little, if anything, to do with Grace Humiston. Nevertheless Mrs. Sherlock Holmes is a worthwhile read because it brings Grace Humiston and her almost forgotten career back to life at a time, as Ricca reminds us in his final pages, when women and girls are still being kidnapped and otherwise victimized.

This covers fascinating material. The research is excellent. But it reads more like a scholarly work than an informative book for the general public. The subtitle is misleading. This book is about several cases, not just the Missing Girl Case. All the jumping around in time and topic is confusing if you are expecting the book to be about one case and that everything should tie to it. It isn't and it doesn't. This is not biographical. We learn virtually nothing about Grace Humiston's personal life. But her work life is fascinating and is covered comprehensively. I'd rate it 5 for the content and 3 for the way it is organized. Hence the rating of 4.

This was a replacement, because I sent my previous copy home with my daughter who lives in the Netherlands. I have found it quite helpful in identifying and treating "imbalances" that cause discomfort. I consider it part of my First Aid kit.This book is very clear in explaining how Reflexology works, how to do it, and has very easy to follow charts for common issues.

This book is great. Have lost 3 by loaning to family and friends. We use reflexology when anyone is sick or hurt. Have 6 grandchildren and when they are sick or hurt from sports they ask us to do their feet. Started doing this when they were babies

Just an all around perfect book for reflexology. As helpful to the beginner as it is for anyone well studied and practiced in it. Helpful pictures and easy to read. Very holistic in its practice.

Laura Norman LOVES FEET and it shows in her book. (She's holding a bunch of feet on the cover) I think this is THE BEST REFLEXOLOGY BOOK I have seen. I found it while going to massage school. The book is full of information and so easy to use and look up any questions you might have. I have read it through twice and keep it handy for reference. I was so impressed with my copy that I bought this copy and had it sent to my daughter who has been a massage therapist for 5 years now. She also said it is the best source of foot reflexology information she has seen too. You don't have to be a massage therapist for this to be useful you just have to love feet too.

Laura Norman has written a fantastic book on foot massage and reflexology. the book includes several charts and explains how reflexology is thought to work and what someone can realistically expect from reflexology treatments. Norman was around when reflexology started becoming more mainstream, and now this book could be considered a neo-classic in the field. If you want to learn reflexology, this is one of the books you should get to have a solid understanding of the subject.

This book will be a value reference during my studies of Naturopathic Medicine and the different therapes I'll study. An excellent book for novice interested in learning, applying reflexology to a partner or self.

Laura Norman is one of the finest, if not the worlds finest Reflexologist. This book is a wonderful way to learn the Art of Reflexology. I studied with Laura years ago, and refer to this book often. I also give it as a gift, and people love it.

Thoroughly accessible and elevating book. All you need to know about reflexology.
